It’s that time a year again when spouses and children start frantically searching for the perfect Mother’s Day gift. Here is a list of my favourite Mother’s Day Escapes in and around Toronto.
The Four Seasons Spa Toronto
As you may already know from my review of the Four Seasons spa in Toronto, I absolutely love this spa. Located in the heart of Yorkville, Toronto’s best shopping district, what mom would not love a day off at this acclaimed hotel. I do have one warning about this spa. If you are sending Mom for a complete day, the spa does not offer food service so Mom will need to leave to eat or subsist on delicious free apples. The Four Seasons has two great restaurants but if you book the two treatments with lunch in between, Mom will have to get dressed to enjoy a meal.
For the entire month of May, the Four Seasons spa is offering deals at their Hair Bar as well as in their spa. When you book a 60 minute facial for Mom at regular price ($180), you can also book a 60 minute aromatherapy massage for an additional $99. The 60 minute massage is regularly $350 and during May both treatments combined are only $279.
My favourite feature of the Four Seasons spa is the relaxation pool shown above. Photo credit: Four Seasons Spa
Way Spa Gift Cards
If you aren’t sure which spa to send your Mom to in Toronto or Mom lives out of town, Way Spa offers a great solution. The website allows you to purchase spa Gift Cards that can be used at over 139 spas in Toronto and over 2000 spas across North America. Gift cards range from $25-$500 and are currently 15% off for Mother’s Day. Cards can be emailed, printed at home or shipped to Mom in gorgeous gift box.
Niagara Wine Tours
If spas aren’t Mom’s thing, I highly recommend one of the many wine tours available in the Niagara region. Grapeandwinetours.com offers a Via Rail Tour that includes train transportation to and from Toronto. Restaurants and wineries visited on the tour may include The Benchmark Winery Restaurant, The Old Winery Restaurant, La Cachette, or the Riverbend Inn, to name a few. The tour also includes all transportation between the stops and to and from the train station. The tour is $165 and gift certificates are available.
Jackson-Triggs Summer Concert Series
Although Mom would have to wait a few months to enjoy this gift, another great winery option is the Jackson-Triggs Summer Concert Series. The concert series combines great Canadian talent with appetizers and award winning wines from the Jackson-Triggs estate which is breathtaking. This year’s line-up includes performances by Jesse Cook, Chantel Kreviazuk, Cowboy Junkies and the Arkells. Tickets can be purchased directly from the website with a cellar dinner option as well as wine and light fare or simple on their own.
Porter Escapes
For the ultimate in Mother’s Day Escapes, try one of the Porter Escapes on sale now. Let Mom escape to one of the many places Porter flies including Chicago, New York, and Montreal with great rates on hotels and cheap flights. Leaving from downtown Toronto, Porter offers excellent service and free snacks and alcohol while on board. Last year, Will and I escaped to New York City for 4 days on a Porter Escape and I did a separate escape last Christmas to Chicago. I have never been disappointed by the service provided by Porter. If you decide on Chicago, send Mom to dinner at GEB, Graham Elliot’s Chicago restaurant. The chef is often found in the kitchen and the staff are knowledgeable about the city and night life. The food, like most food in Chicago, is affordable and incredible.
Don’t send flowers this year. Celebrate Mom with one of my personally recommended Mother’s Day Escapes.
